Description

These data characterize the activation processes of CoSn(OH)6-based electrocatalysts for the oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline conditions. Crystalline (CoSn25), crystalline defective (CoSn150) and amorphous (CoSn300) catalysts with identical metal compositions from the same precursor batch were considered. The operando X-ray diffraciton and X-ray abosorption spectroscopy indicate that crystalline and amorphous catalysts take different reconstruction pathways under the reaction conditions. Co L-edge total electron yield data indicate that a metal-ligand charge transfer surface state is formed during electrochemical activation that correlates well with the observed electrochemical activity.
